BIO

A Writer's Name

I've been fortunate enough to live in several countries and have also started up and ran several businesses around the world. Despite my entrepreneurial tendencies, my dream has always been to write.

Nonetheless my favorite words from when in Barcelona were said to me by the doorman of my building.

He said "tienes un nombre de escritor".
Which basically means he thought I had a writers name, gary thomas murray.  Of course, I may well not have a writers ability, but the name was at least a good start!

It's amazing how much you have to live in order to learn.   It's also amazing how difficult it is to get across just a few simple messages in an entire book.  Living in other countries and cultures opens your eyes to many things about you and about others, both good and bad.  One thing I have learnt is that each country or culture makes very small changes over a very long time.

Although I always wanted to write a book, I always fancied writing a spy or even a romantic novel first.  I never imagined I would start by writing a young adults book. However, when I finally had no more excuses for not finishing anything I started writing, the first story that came to mind was Letterham.  Then the second book, The Reunion, came out as a natural progression of the first and I am pretty sure a third and a forth one could come, but before they do, I'd like to get that romantic novel and maybe the spy novel out of me first.

As I get older and want to have my own children I think I appreciate children more and more.  I also appreciate that for many children what they experience and learn between the ages of 10 to 16 can have a profound effect on them for the rest of their lives and perhaps it would be nice if my writing could add to this effect.

Only time will tell if what I was trying to do had any real impact at all.
