A Taste of the "THE REUNION"

“Maybe you can help me.  I am looking for a woman and a girl; I believe they may have come here from Jayham a few weeks ago in a horse and cart; they were suffering from the white plague.”

“Yes General, many have come looking for help from Jayham and the good doctor has done what he could.  Many have survived, but some were too late.  However, with so many having come through these gates, I could not say if those you seek came here or not.”
     The man continued,

“If you go to one of the guest houses further down the town and ask there; that’s where many of them stayed for their recuperation and that's where many of them still are.  Many of those who did recover, they don't know where to go; they have nowhere to go, so they are still here.”

The Generals heart started to beat faster again as he became very anxious all of a sudden.  That was the first time he thought the other Jayham families; they had lost everything and they did indeed have nowhere to go.  They could not go back to Jayham; the white plague would persist in the air for months or years, who knows.  What would all these families do that were forced to leave their homes through no fault of their own?

Letterham was not the most welcoming land; each town was very skeptical of those from other towns and would surely not welcome any number of people from Jayham.  Maybe those from Jayham would all become outsiders or would be forced to go to Killham.  He gave it some thought as he walked through the town, but upon knocking at the door of the first guest house, he now had other more pressing matters on his mind.

This first guest house was an all wooden building, almost like a log cabin in appearance, except a little larger.  Even still, “there could not be more than four or five families staying in such a place”, Sir thought to himself.  The front door slowly opened and he looked down to see a child standing there, slightly hidden behind the door.  Now behind the child came walking an old lady towards the door; she had wrinkles on her face and an almost criss cross pattern on her leather like neck.   Her face seemed kind though and upon reaching the door, she patted the child on the head, who then left the two of them and walked back down the hallway.
The lady greeted Sir in a deep croaky voice.

“Good afternoon Sir, how can we help you today?”

“Good afternoon indeed.  I wonder if you can help me; I'm looking for a lady….”  and at that point he was immediately interrupted.
“Oh no Sir, we are not that kind of a house; you can find that further down the town.”

“No, no, not that kind of a lady.” he replied.

“I’m looking for a friend of mine, Juliet, and our young girl, Jane.  I believe, and I hope they came from Jayham; they both were infected with the white plague.”
